The single homeless are those who, more often than not, fall outside the responsibility of statutory authorities. Very often they are sleeping rough and may have a range of difficulties, including drug or alcohol dependency, mental ill health, relationship problems or an offending lifestyle, which contribute to their homelessness and social exclusion. St Petroc’s exists to provide a diverse range of services for this particular group.
St Petroc’s Society was the first organisation in Cornwall to provide accommodation and housing related support services to meet the needs of the single homeless. Formed in 1986 at the instigation of the Bishop of St Germans, it has considerable support from all the churches, local communities and dedicated groups of ‘Friends’.
The services offered are in no way a solution to the problems faced on a day by day basis by homeless people living on the streets of Cornwall. Instead they give much needed breathing space to some of the most vulnerable people in Cornwall. They give hope and much needed support to ensure that every opportunity is given to everyone who wishes to take that first step back into the community.
It is always worth remembering that we all are one pay cheque away from homelessness ourselves and what support would we want if we found ourselves standing on the street with no home, family or friends to turn to?
Every homeless person is someone's father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, uncle or aunt..
DONATIONS
It is Christmas Appeal time again and we are very happy to receive donations! If you would like a copy of our Christmas Newsletter please call the administration number given below. Like many other charities we have suffered income reductions this year and there are many crossed fingers as we hope that the public will continue to support our work. Without your help we would not be able to run all the vital services that we provide in Cornwall.
We can now take donations online via the Charities Aid Foundation(CAF)website.
(When you search for the Society input “st petroc's society” to find our entry.
Sometimes people are reluctant to donate in the fear that they will be bombarded with follow up letters or even worse with their details being given to other charities.
St Petroc’s Society will never give your name or details to any other organisation and we will not ask you again for a donation. If you would like to be kept posted with news we will send you an occasional newsletter or update but only if you request us to do so.
If you would like to make a donation direct to the Society please send it to our City Road address marked for the attention of the Finance Officer. If you are able to Gift Aid the donation please download the form linked below and we can receive a further 25p in the £. If you are not able to download the form send a note with your donation and we will send you the form.
