Supported Accommodation

The Society currently operates five supported housing projects in Cornwall.  There are two in Truro, two in Bodmin and one in Newquay.  The projects are staffed by a full time manager who works between 9am and 5pm week days and a part time manager who works 10 hours over the weekend. However, managers can change their hours to meet the needs of the project and its residents.  Out of office hours an on-call duty manager system is in operation for residents to call in an emergency.

Each project houses 6 residents at a time.  Generally each resident can stay for around six months but this can vary depending on the resident’s individual needs.  During their stay residents are expected to work with the Manager to address any issues and develop the action plan they started with the resettlement team.  Whilst the managers are in place to support residents the emphasis is placed on the individual residents to move forward and ultimately secure more permanent move on accommodation.

Unlike other projects the residents work together as a family unit and carry out daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning, menu preparation and purchase of food for the house.  They share communal areas such as the kitchen, dining room and living room but have their own rooms for privacy.  When entering the project each resident signs up to a set of house rules which include no alcohol or illegal substances on site at any time.

Pets are permitted in the supported accommodation but they remain the responsibility of the individual residents at all times.

All of the projects work within the Supporting People Quality Assessment Framework and have attained at least a Level C for each of the 6 audited areas of work.  This ensures that the standards of support offered to the residents are maintained to the highest possible levels.

Access to Supported Accommodation

Each project is direct access which means that anyone can approach the projects directly for accommodation.  However, it is unlikely that an applicant will gain accommodation in this way due the  high demand placed on the projects.

The resettlement teams based in Truro and Penzance hold a waiting list for people waiting to access the supported accommodation and anyone wishing to be considered for accommodation is advised to contact the resettlement team to discuss their options.  The accommodation offered by the Society is not always the best solution or everyone and it may be that there are other options open available.
