The aim of the St Petroc's Society Outreach team is to engage rough sleepers and those vulnerably housed in order to link them in with the most appropriate services and support networks with a view to finding them secure and sustainable accommodation.
They also aim to reduce rough sleeping, assist those with multiple issues in gaining the support they need, contribute to community safety partnerships and help people to adopt a less harmful lifestyle. The team work predominantly in North Cornwall, Caradon, Restormel and Carrick and take referrals from a multitude of sources including local authorities, churches, members of the community, voluntary organisations and the CAB etc though clients may also self refer. There are a number of regular surgeries set up in local authority offices in order to give advice and carry out resettlement interviews.
The Outreach team also undertake other valuable work within the community such as raising awareness, providing advice and education. They also provide bedding and food supplies for those in need, all of which comes to us via generous donations received from the community. They also pay regular visits to the soup kitchens and breakfast clubs which are an invaluable source of basic nutritional needs. These places provide a safe and warm environment in which the service users can engage with the Outreachers. There are a number of service users that are involved with substance misuse and these clients are signposted and linked in with appropriate addiction and counselling services.
Due to the chaotic lifestyle of the clients, the Outreachers work flexible hours in order to reach some of the more socially excluded individuals.
