Resettlement

Based in the Truro Resource Centre and Breadline Centre, Penzance the resettlement team provide front line services to single homeless people.   The primary role of the resettlement team is to assist service users to access accommodation, employment and training which is appropriate for their needs.   It is important to remember that the Society does not operate an out of hours service is respect of homelessness.  If you are homeless tonight and the Society is closed then please click here for advice.

The Breadline Centre is open weekdays between 10am and 4pm for all services.  The opening times for the Truro Resource Centre are listed below.

A range of services are offered and these include:

Housing Advice

Any service user can approach the resettlement team for advice in respect of housing, employment or training.  During the interview all aspects of housing, health, addiction, employment and training are discussed and together with the staff member the service user will create an action plan to resolve their issues.  In appropriate cases the resettlement team will advocate on behalf of the service user and support them in making any applications for support from other agencies both statutory and otherwise.

The resettlement team are not experts in all fields and on occasion may refer a service user to a partner agency for further advice or assistance.  If this is the case the resettlement team will ensure that the service user fully understands the reasons the referral and is happy with it.

Clothing and Bedding Store

The Society receives donations of clothing and bedding throughout the year and appropriate items are made available for service users at no cost.  Any items which are not suitable for service users are passed onto other charitable organisations.  The Society is always short of sleeping bags, underwear for males and females, jeans, warm jumpers and waterproof coats of all sizes.

Food Store

There are regular donations of food made to the Society and this then distributed to services users who are not in receipt of benefits or have a special reason for additional food.  The most suitable donations of food are tins of meat, vegetables (with ring pulls) packets of biscuits.

Shower Facilities

Services users can access the shower when the offices are open free of charge.  The Society will provide towels, soap and when available other toiletries such as toothbrushes, tooth paste, razors and shaving foam.

Laundry Services

For a small fee of 50 pence per load service users can leave their washing.  The Society will wash and dry clothes and will service users will then be able to collect washing 2 days later.  There is an iron available for service users to use should they wish.

Storage

Service users can leave a small amount of belongings for up to three months with the Society.  During this time they can access the store to retrieve items as necessary.  The items left are checked by staff to ensure that no illegal or prohibited items are stored.

Post

Service users who have no fixed address can register to have post delivered to either the Truro Resource Centre or the Breadline Centre.  However, the Society cannot be used as a mailing address for banks, building societies or agencies such as the DVLA.

Telephone

A telephone is available for service users to use to make calls related to accommodation, employment or training and in some circumstances to contact family members with whom they have not spoken in some time.

Internet

Service users can access the internet in the Truro Resource Centre allowing them to look for accommodation, employment or training and to make online applications in line with the new e-government initiative.

Health 4 Homeless

The Big Issue

The Society distributes the Big Issue for Cornwall with the exception of Penwith (which is covered by the Salvation Army).  Vendors of the Big Issue carry badges at all times and follow a strict code of conduct. 

Café (Breadline)

Breadline runs a subsidised café for single homeless and unemployed people.  Open between 10am and 2.30pm weekdays the café provides good quality food at a very reasonable price.
