Cold Weather Provision

Cold Weather Provision

Every year St Petroc’s offers emergency shelter for those who are sleeping rough in Cornwall during the coldest period of the winter months. This is known as our Cold Weather Provision initiative.

For two months, between mid-December and mid-February, the Truro Resource Centre operates almost around the clock to ensure no one who is sleeping rough perishes. Even though Cornwall rarely experiences extreme cold, damp weather can cause significant health problems itself.

St Petroc’s staff and volunteers provide cover and support through the night, complementing this with pro-active intervention during the day. Cold Weather Provision is run with the help and support of a number of partner agencies including Coastline Housing Ltd, Stonham, Cornwall Housing Ltd and Devon & Cornwall Police.

For the period 18th December 2017 – 18th February 2018, 76 individuals accessed this service. The previous year (December 2016 – February 2017), of the 59 individuals who accessed our Cold Weather Provision, 42 were consequently housed in longer term accommodation.
