Health for Homeless

Health for Homeless

Established in 2003, Cornwall Health for Homeless is currently being provided by Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust with the aim of bridging the gap between homelessness and health care.

Due to their situation, homeless individuals are much more likely to be suffering from poor mental and physical health and often find it difficult to access the appropriate medical care and support.

Cornwall Health for Homeless runs clinics throughout the working week in three locations in Cornwall – at the Truro Resource Centre, Breadline in Penzance and Coastline in Camborne. Having identified what works best in meeting the needs of this particular patient group, Health for Homeless clinics operate on a drop-in basis, offer medical advice and treatment, and are staffed by teams comprising of two GPs and a nurse, supported by a Practice Manager and two admin staff.

Many of the patients have alcohol/drug dependency, psychological and/ or mental health issues which require close liaison between the medical teams and Cornwall Drug and Alcohol Team, Addaction, Outlook Southwest and community mental health teams.

The clinics also regularly provide immunisations, health promotion services, shared care and podiatry.
