Latest News An update on our services in June 2024 We’re pleased to bring you the latest updates around our services during what has at times been a wet and wild Cornish Summer. In June 2024, St Petrocs supported 211 people experiencing homelessness in Cornwall, 12% more people than the previous month. Of the 211 people we worked with, 138 individuals were forced to sleep outside, enduring all types of weather and conditions. The remaining 73 individuals were experiencing 'hidden homelessness,' a form of homelessness which is not visible in the community. Many people experiencing homelessness sleep in remote or unconventional locations to stay out of sight or to escape sleeping outside. This can include sofa surfing, living in unsafe or substandard accommodation, living in vehicles, and more. It is likely that there are many more people in Cornwall who are experiencing 'hidden homelessness' and are yet to reach out to support services, and therefore, the number is likely to be much higher. Last month, we were able to support 40 people who were experiencing homelessness into accommodation, and continue to work with those who have not yet found a suitable home. Cornwall is a popular destination for holiday makers over the summer months, but many of these places are where we see high numbers of people experiencing homelessness. In June, of the people who accessed our services... We provide support to people sleeping rough through our resource centres in Truro and Penzance, which are open six days a week. Additionally, we offer an outreach service for people experiencing homelessness throughout Cornwall that are unable to visit our centres. If you are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, please call us on 01872 264153 or email us [email protected] How you can help If you would like to help someone experiencing homelessness in your area, you can do so in a number of ways: 1.
