Outreach Services

St Petrocs operates an outreach service, where our staff find and engage with rough sleepers across the length and breadth of Cornwall.

Many are found sleeping rough in woodlands, on beaches, in caves and on the outskirts of towns, making them less readily noticeable than perhaps would be the case in more urban, built-up areas of the county.

Our outreach team helps some of the most vulnerable and socially excluded members of the community. Many suffer from physical and mental ill health and may have turned to alcohol or drugs as a means of coping. It can take time to build trust and positive relationships with these individuals – contact with our team is a vital first step in getting them the help they need.

St Petrocs Winter Services

Every year St Petrocs offers emergency shelter for those who are sleeping rough in Cornwall during the coldest period of the winter months. This is known as our Winter Services initiative.

For two months, between mid-December and mid-February, the Truro Resource Centre operates almost around the clock to ensure no one who is sleeping rough perishes. Even though Cornwall rarely experiences extreme cold, damp weather can cause significant health problems itself.

This winter, due to the pandemic, our Winter Services are operating in a dispersed way using self-contained accommodation.
