On 2nd May, we hosted an exciting event at Charlestown, St Austell, in collaboration with the Charlestown Shipwreck Treasure Museum and South West Coast Path Association.

Despite hints of grey clouds, the rain held off and our residents, supporters and staff were able to walk from Charlestown to Porthpean, led by the South West Coast Path Association. The walk was guided by a fantastic facilitator, Jack, who made sure our group completed the circular walk safely and that we saw some fantastic views.

Our partnership with the South West Coast Path Association has been of great benefit to our clients, who thoroughly enjoy being able to access Cornwall’s coast. The association kindly trained 3 members of St Petrocs staff to become Coast Path Connectors Rangers to empower our clients to access the Coast Paths at least once a month. The opportunity to walk and talk creates a relaxed atmosphere and allows our community and residents to get to know each other and create connections.

Following the walk, we returned to Charlestown and were greeted by the curator of the Charlestown Shipwreck Museum, Daniel Scholes, who gave an interesting introduction to the history of Charlestown. Then, we explored the museum at our own leisure and our residents especially enjoyed seeing the necklace from the Titanic movie. The day ended with a chance to chat about the day whilst eating cake.

We would like to share a thank you to the Charlestown Shipwreck Museum, who granted us free access to the museum, which enabled our residents to view some fantastic artifacts and learn more about shipwreck treasures. We look forward to visiting again and as always, look forward to their seasonal exhibitions.

Thanks to all who came, including our supporters from businesses, one of whom has invited us to visit Glendurgan Garden, a National Trust site.
