Three of our team are training to become Volunteer Community Rangers as part of the Coast Path Connectors project run by the South West Coast Path Association.

Amanda, Abi & Mike joined the Coast Path Connectors team for a walk leader practical training session after completing the online theory aspects of the course. The team started in Falmouth, taking the bus to Helford in preparation for the 11km walk back across the beautiful South West Coast Path. The day was led by Matt Brown, a professional International Mountain Leader. Matt has led multiple expeditions across 5 of the 7 worlds continents and the team were thrilled to have Matt’s expertise to learn from.

Each member of the team took turns to be either a back marker, ensuring there were no problems on route and keeping the group together, or the walk leader, taking into account the terrain, the weather, walkers abilities, risks, navigation, ensuring hydration, as well as story telling along the way with local knowledge, flora and fauna.

Despite the soggy weather on the day our team learnt a lot and enjoyed the day. They now look forward to their final assessment day in September where they will have to provide a portfolio of information on a guided walk. From here we will be able to offer our clients and supporters fully insured guided walks across the South West Coast Path enabling those who otherwise might not get the opportunity, the chance to enjoy our wonderful coastal walks.
