A sunny week of Big Lunches at St Petrocs

A whole host of Big Lunch events took place throughout the St Petrocs accommodation across Cornwall this week. The Big Lunch, is a very simple idea from the Eden Project all about sharing food and conversation, it connects people and encourages friendlier, safer neighbourhoods where people start to share more – from conversations and ideas to skills and resources.

This year we were blessed with sunshine, so our residents put up the bunting and lit the BBQ’s. Homemade spicy sausages, burgers and even jerk chicken were on the menu!

This is the second year of Big Lunch arrangements being made slightly differently to ‘usual’ as we continue to navigate our way through the (hopefully) tail end of a global pandemic.

It is more important than ever to stay connected and keep building the strength in our communities, so this year we were delighted to be able to safely welcome a few guests, including neighbours of one of the properties to thank them for decades of support, and Geoff Tate, one of our St Petrocs Trustees.

Big Lunches took place in gardens and between households, and where some guests were welcomed, numbers were limited, and all events adhered to current guidelines as the pandemic restrictions continue. The day was a great success, and everyone had full belly’s and lots of laughter!
