Last week St Petrocs held a four-day art exhibition event at the Pydar Pop Up in Truro. The exhibition ‘Journey to a Home’ gave us the opportunity to celebrate the artistic talents of clients, staff, volunteers, and supporters. It allowed us to explore the diverse journeys of homelessness with the intention of raising awareness, and opening conversations to dismantle stereotypes and challenge prejudices.

 

On the first day clients and staff joined together in workshops to create a wonderful selection of lanterns which we are looking forward to using at our Carol Service in Truro Cathedral this December. These sessions provided a relaxed private opportunity for our clients to explore the exhibition before we opened to the public, with an exclusive private view for supporters in the evening.

We kicked off the second day by hosting a business breakfast among the artworks with new and existing business supporters. Talented local artist Peter Blodau joined us to talk with us about art and the journey of his work, and Cassie from Cornwall Caricatures joined us to draw caricatures of attendees as a fun fundraiser over breakfast.

We were delighted to welcome groups from Bosvigo school for creative sessions where the children helped us to fill some art boards with pictures of ‘journeys’ and ‘homes’, along with some very thoughtful messages of support to those who are experiencing homelessness.  We were so impressed with all the children from Bosvigo Primary who were incredibly polite and a joy to have with us. 

We finished the week with two Community Café days on the Friday and Saturday which offered a relaxed atmosphere for attendees to enjoy the artwork. We were particularly touched by the vibrant discussions and interactions that took place at these sessions. 

The level of engagement and enthusiasm from everyone involved was truly heart-warming, from clients submitting their art, to students exploring their creativity, and the local businesses who joined us for the Business Breakfast or supported the event financially.
