With just over a week to go until this years Eden Sleep Out takes place on Thursday 19th November we are encouraging you to sign up and join us, from your own homes.

This years Sleep Out will be very different to those we have experienced for the last 6 years between the biomes at the Eden Project. Sadly current government guidelines mean this event is unable to be hosted in person at the Eden Project, therefore the event will be taking place virtually but we will still be able to share the evening together, albeit over the internet!

There will be online entertainment on the night for all participants to enjoy, from the likes of best-selling author Raynor Winn, inspiring homelessness activist Mimi Beard, singer-songwriter Suzie Mac, a drawing workshop from Helen Trevaskis, and much more.

With the event taking place virtually this means you can bed down wherever works best for you. The challenge will be to find a hidden away spot in your garden or home where you can raise a tent or just bed down for the night.

The idea is not to replicate homelessness but to raise awareness of some of the difficulties faced with not having a home. Someone sleeping outdoors will normally try to hide away as much as possible so that they can protect themselves and their few belongings. Over the years our outreach team has found people in all sorts of hidden away places, including tents in woods, garages, sheds, derelict buildings, even caves in cliffs!

The pandemic has created a whole new layer of homelessness, and we’ve seen people being propelled into homelessness unexpectedly, with extreme and complex situations. The lives of people who are experiencing homelessness and forced to sleep rough will be at risk from the double threat of the cold weather and catching Covid-19 this winter.

The event helps to raise essential funds for St Petrocs. This winter being set to be one of the hardest we have faced, with increased weather extremes due to changing climates, the economy, and the added pressure of COVID-19.

If you, would like to take part, then there is still time to sign up! head over to Edens website, register and select St Petrocs as your chosen charity.

All the money you, your family and friends raise will go directly to helping those who need it most!
