I love volunteering as a Community Champion for St Petrocs as it allows me support a brilliant charity who are raising awareness about homelessness, challenging stereotypes and promoting positive change in a dynamic and inclusive ways.

Through the events that I have supported to date I’ve had a chance to build a connection clients the charity is supporting, the staff who work there and other volunteers in Cornwall who offer their time and support to St Petrocs. The opportunity to support has been at a wide variety of events including a carol service, a presentation to a young St John’s Ambulance team and also the Royal Cornwall Show. There really is something for everyone in terms of how you can get involved.

Volunteering has also given me a chance for personal growth, for example, I was able to join some of the team for Mental Health First Aid training and learn with others how we can continue to support clients in the best way whilst acknowledging challenges that we all might all come across.

I feel really lucky to get to work in such a welcoming environment, all the team are friendly and hands on, they listen to clients and volunteers and their ideas and feedback, and there is a real drive to ensure everyone can make a difference and contribute. St Petrocs appreciate their volunteers and are always quick to thank you for your time and support and getting to know the clients and learn more about their ambitions and skills has been a real pleasure.
